In the 2017 Gujarat Legislative Assembly Election, there were 25 candidates in the fray from Botad constituency. Botad was one of 99 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. It was an extremely close fight, with Bharatiya Janata Party's Saurabh Patel (DALAL) narrowly winning the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Kalathiya Dhirajlal Madhavjibhai (D.M.PATEL) by a slim margin of 906 votes.
The top two candidates split 90.0% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Saurabh Patel (DALAL) got a total of 79,623 votes, while Indian National Congress's Kalathiya Dhirajlal Madhavjibhai (D.M.PATEL) secured 78,717 votes. Independent candidate Jamod Somabhai Ramjibhai secured 4,708 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 45.3%, 44.7% and 2.7% respectively.
