Tezpur is one of the 126 Assam Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Sonitpur district. People of Tezpur voted for Assam Assembly Election 2021 on March 27 and the result was declared on May 2.
In 2016, the Tezpur assembly seat had 1,64,365 registered voters. Of the, 83,042 were male and 81,323 were female voters. 0.9% of votes were casted for NOTA.
In the 2016 Assam Legislative Assembly Election, there were 8 candidates in the fray from Tezpur constituency. Tezpur was one of 14 seats won by the Indian National Congress. It was a one way contest with Asom Gana Parisad's Brindaban Goswami comfortably winning the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Hiranya Bhuyan by a huge margin of 34,663 votes.
97.1% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Asom Gana Parisad's Brindaban Goswami grabbed a total of 71,170 votes, while Indian National Congress's Hiranya Bhuyan got 36,507 votes. All India United Democratic Front's candidate Sukendra Nath bagged 22,295 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 53.2%, 27.3% and 16.7% respectively.
In Assam Assembly election 2011, Indian National Congress's Rajen Borthakur defeated Asom Gana Parisad's Brindaban Goswami by 21,582 votes.
