Sarupathar is one of the 126 Assam Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Golaghat district. Assam Assembly Election 2021 for Sarupathar was held on March 27 and the result was declared on May 2.
Sarupathar assembly constituency had 2,26,080 electors in 2016, out of which 1,16,839 were male voters and 1,09,241 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 1.4% votes.
In the Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2016, Sarupathar constituency had 7 candidates for assembly seat contention. Sarupathar was one of 26 seats won by the Asom Gana Parisad. It was a close contest with Indian National Congress's Roselina Tirkey winning the election upstaging Asom Gana Parisad's Binod Gowalla by a margin of just 2,927 votes.
The top three candidates split 92.1% of votes between them. Indian National Congress's Roselina Tirkey secured a total of 67,150 votes, while Asom Gana Parisad's Binod Gowalla got 64,223 votes. Independent candidate Biswajit Phukan bagged 37,281 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 36.7%, 35.1% and 20.4% respectively.
In Assam Assembly election 2011, Indian National Congress's Aklius Tirkey defeated Asom Gana Parisad's Binod Gowala by 32,093 votes.
