Sarukhetri comes under the Barpeta district and it is one of the 126 Assam Legislative Assembly Constituencies . People of Sarukhetri voted for Assam Assembly Election 2021 on April 6 and the result was declared on May 2.
In 2016, the Sarukhetri assembly seat had 1,75,014 registered voters. Of the, 91,844 were male and 83,170 were female voters. 0.4% of votes were casted for NOTA.
In the Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2016, Sarukhetri constituency had 11 candidates for assembly seat contention. Sarukhetri was one of 26 seats won by the Asom Gana Parisad. Indian National Congress's Jakir Hussain Sikdar won the election by upstaging Asom Gana Parisad's Chittaranjan Barman by a margin of 24,247 votes.
88.8% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Indian National Congress's Jakir Hussain Sikdar grabbed a total of 70,062 votes, while Asom Gana Parisad's Chittaranjan Barman got 45,815 votes. All India United Democratic Front's candidate Ali Hossain bagged 21,460 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 45.3%, 29.6% and 13.9% respectively.
In Assam Assembly election 2011, All India United Democratic Front's Ali Hossain defeated Indian National Congress's Tara Prasad Das by 27,622 votes.
