Rangia is the assembly constituency which comes under the Kamrup district. It is one of the 126 Assam Legislative Assembly Constituencies . Assam Assembly Election 2021 for Rangia was held on April 1 and the result was declared on May 2.
In 2016, the Rangia assembly seat had 1,69,500 registered voters. Of the, 88,741 were male and 80,759 were female voters. 0.5% of votes were casted for NOTA.
In the Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2016, Rangia constituency had 11 candidates for assembly seat contention. Total 60 seats were won by the Independent, Rangia was one of them. The election for Rangia seat was comfortably won by Bharatiya Janta Party's Bhabesh Kalita defeating independent candidate Ghanashyam Kalita by a huge margin of 32,067 votes.
71.9% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Bharatiya Janta Party's Bhabesh Kalita grabbed a total of 58,353 votes, while independent candidate Ghanashyam Kalita got 26,286 votes. Indian National Congress's candidate Mrinal Deka bagged 17,772 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 41.0%, 18.5% and 12.5% respectively.
In Assam Assembly election 2011, Indian National Congress's Ghanashyam Kalita beat Asom Gana Parisad's Thaneswar Boro by 10,074 votes.
