Moran comes under the Dibrugarh district and it is one of the 126 Assam Legislative Assembly Constituencies . People of Moran voted for Assam Assembly Election 2021 on March 27 and the result was declared on May 2.
Moran assembly constituency had 1,20,415 electors in 2016, out of which 61,290 were male voters and 59,125 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 1.4% votes.
In the 2016 Assam Legislative Assembly Election, there were 6 candidates in the fray from Moran constituency. Moran was one of 60 seats won by the Indian National Congress. Bharatiya Janta Party's Chakradhar Gogoi won the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Paban Singh Ghatowar by a margin of 16,231 votes.
The top two candidates split 93.7% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janta Party's Chakradhar Gogoi got a total of 54,571 votes, while Indian National Congress's Paban Singh Ghatowar secured 38,340 votes. Independent candidate Ashok Kumar Urang secured 2,322 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 55.0%, 38.7% and 2.3% respectively.
In Assam Assembly election 2011, Indian National Congress's Jibontara Ghatowar beat Asom Gana Parisad's Sunil Rajkonwar by 29,493 votes.
