Hailakandi is one of the 126 Assam Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Hailakandi district. People of Hailakandi voted for Assam Assembly Election 2021 on April 1 and the result was declared on May 2.
Hailakandi assembly constituency had 1,44,605 electors in 2016, out of which 76,312 were male voters and 68,293 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.2% votes.
In the 2016 Assam Legislative Assembly Election, there were 23 candidates in the fray from Hailakandi constituency. Hailakandi was one of 13 seats won by the Bharatiya Janta Party. It was a close contest with All India United Democratic Front's Anwar Hussain Laskar winning the election upstaging Bharatiya Janta Party's Soumyajit Dutta Choudhury by a margin of just 2,608 votes.
85.5% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. All India United Democratic Front's Anwar Hussain Laskar got a total of 41,647 votes, while Bharatiya Janta Party's Soumyajit Dutta Choudhury secured 39,039 votes. Independent candidate Zakir Hussain Laskar grabbed the third spot with 15,633 votes. The top three parties got 36.9%, 34.6% and 13.9% respectively.
In Assam Assembly election 2011, Indian National Congress's Abdul Muhib Mazumder beat Bharatiya Janta Party's Subrata Kumar Nath by 4,993 votes.
