Golakganj is the assembly constituency which comes under the Dhubri district. It is one of the 126 Assam Legislative Assembly Constituencies . Assam Assembly Election 2021 for Golakganj was held on April 6 and the result was declared on May 2.
Golakganj assembly constituency had 1,77,078 electors in 2016, out of which 93,155 were male voters and 83,923 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.6% votes.
In the 2016 Assam Legislative Assembly Election, there were 4 candidates in the fray from Golakganj constituency. Golakganj was one of 60 seats won by the Indian National Congress. It was a close contest with Bharatiya Janta Party's Ashwini Ray Sarkar winning the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Abdus Sobahan Ali Sarkar by a margin of just 6,391 votes.
99.5% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Bharatiya Janta Party's Ashwini Ray Sarkar grabbed a total of 74,644 votes, while Indian National Congress's Abdus Sobahan Ali Sarkar got 68,253 votes. All India United Democratic Front's candidate Safer Ali Ahmed bagged 16,843 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 46.5%, 42.5% and 10.5% respectively.
In Assam Assembly election 2011, Indian National Congress's Abu Taher Bepari beat Bharatiya Janta Party's Aswini Roy Sarkar by 4,008 votes.
