Gauhati East is one of the 126 Assam Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Kamrup Metropolitan district. People of Gauhati East voted for Assam Assembly Election 2021 on April 6 and the result was declared on May 2.
In Assam Assembly Election 2016, there were 2,15,102 registered voters for Gauhati East assembly seat, out of which 1,08,835 were male and 1,06,267 were female voters. 0.6% of voters opted for for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
In the Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2016, Gauhati East constituency had 12 candidates for assembly seat contention. Total 60 seats were won by the Indian National Congress, Gauhati East was one of them. The election for Gauhati East seat was comfortably won by Bharatiya Janta Party's Siddhartha Bhattacharya defeating Indian National Congress's Bobbeeta Sharma by a huge margin of 96,637 votes.
The top two candidates split 98.3% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janta Party's Siddhartha Bhattacharya got a total of 1,27,602 votes, while Indian National Congress's Bobbeeta Sharma secured 30,965 votes. Independent candidate Dr. Avijit Chakraborty secured 591 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 79.1%, 19.2% and 0.4% respectively.
In Assam Assembly election 2011, Indian National Congress's Capt. Robin Bordoloi. beat Bharatiya Janta Party's Siddhartha Bhattacharya. by 3,997 votes.
