Chenga is one of the 126 Assam Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Barpeta district. Assam Assembly Election 2021 for Chenga was held on April 6 and the result was declared on May 2.
Chenga assembly constituency had 1,22,519 electors in 2016, out of which 64,294 were male voters and 58,225 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.5% votes.
In the Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2016, Chenga constituency had 5 candidates for assembly seat contention. Total 26 seats were won by the All India United Democratic Front, Chenga was one of them. The election for Chenga seat was comfortably won by Indian National Congress's Sukur Ali Ahmed defeating All India United Democratic Front's Monowara Khatun by a huge margin of 23,357 votes.
The top three candidates split 97.4% of votes between them. Indian National Congress's Sukur Ali Ahmed got a total of 51,882 votes, while All India United Democratic Front's Monowara Khatun secured 28,525 votes. Bharatiya Janta Party's candidate Gunajit Adhikary grabbed the third spot with 25,902 votes. The top three parties got 47.5%, 26.1% and 23.7% respectively.
In Assam Assembly election 2011, Indian National Congress's Sukur Ali Ahmed defeated Asom Gana Parisad's Liakat Ali Khan by 12,482 votes.
