Baghbar is one of the 126 Assam Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Barpeta district. Assam Assembly Election 2021 for Baghbar was held on April 6 and the result was declared on May 2.
Baghbar assembly constituency had 1,44,950 electors in 2016, out of which 74,991 were male voters and 69,959 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.7% votes.
In the Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2016, Baghbar constituency had 9 candidates for assembly seat contention. Total 26 seats were won by the All India United Democratic Front, Baghbar was one of them. The election for Baghbar seat was comfortably won by Indian National Congress's Sherman Ali Ahmed defeating All India United Democratic Front's Sheikh Abdul Hamid by a huge margin of 43,433 votes.
The top three candidates split 96.2% of votes between them. Indian National Congress's Sherman Ali Ahmed secured a total of 73,340 votes, while All India United Democratic Front's Sheikh Abdul Hamid got 29,907 votes. Independent candidate Rajib Ahmed bagged 18,357 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 58.0%, 23.7% and 14.5% respectively.
In Assam Assembly election 2011, All India United Democratic Front's Sherman Ali Ahmed outperformed Indian National Congress's Rajib Ahmed by 32,121 votes.
