Algapur is the assembly constituency which comes under the Hailakandi district. It is one of the 126 Assam Legislative Assembly Constituencies . Assam Assembly Election 2021 for Algapur was held on April 1 and the result was declared on May 2.
In 2016, the Algapur assembly seat had 1,43,537 registered voters. Of the, 77,687 were male and 65,850 were female voters. 0.5% of votes were casted for NOTA.
In the Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2016, Algapur constituency had 14 candidates for assembly seat contention. Algapur was one of 13 seats won by the Bharatiya Janta Party. All India United Democratic Front's Nizam Uddin Choudhury won the election by upstaging Bharatiya Janta Party's Kaushik Rai by a margin of 17,754 votes.
92.1% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. All India United Democratic Front's Nizam Uddin Choudhury grabbed a total of 50,531 votes, while Bharatiya Janta Party's Kaushik Rai got 32,777 votes. Indian National Congress's candidate Rahul Roy bagged 25,927 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 42.6%, 27.6% and 21.9% respectively.
In Assam Assembly election 2011, Asom Gana Parisad's Sahidul Alam Choudhury outperformed Indian National Congress's Rahul Roy by 15,041 votes.
