Kartik scored 99.6% marks to top the Haryana Board Class 10 board examination. He scored full 100 marks in science, mathematics and Sanskrit.

Kartik, the topper of Haryana Board Class 10 board examination, knows what he wants to do after college.

The Jind resident scored 99.6% marks to top the Haryana Board Class 10 board examination, the results of which were announced by Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) on Monday. He scored full 100 marks in science, mathematics and Sanskrit.

The 15-year-old has already started preparing for the civil services examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission as he wants to join the Indian Foreign Service (IFS).

“I have made reading newspapers and other general studies books as my hobby so I can crack the UPSC exam and become an IFS,” he said while speaking to the Hindustan Times.

“I want to work for my country by staying outside as I want to improve India’s image in the world. There is so much to this country that people living outside don’t know,” he added.

Kartik is fluent in his spoken English, unusual for a Haryana Board student who is given lessons in Hindi in school.

“This will be an advantage for me in IFS,” he said.

Kartik, a student of Nav Durga Senior Secondary School in Jind, said he studied six hours every day before the exams.

“I strategically made my timetable and devoted more time for topics I found difficult. I ensured I study at least six hours on a regular basis, and during exams, increased this time to nine hours a day,” he said.

Now in Class 11, Kartik has chosen science with both mathematics and biology as his subjects.

“I love all subjects. But if I really have to choose one, then it would be Mathematics. I really enjoy solving the equations,” he said.

Kartik said he wanted to thank his parents and school teachers for motivating him to do better. His father is a watchman in the state irrigation department and his mother, a housewife, passed away last year.

Asked how he would like to celebrate his brilliant feat, Kartik said he had no plans right now. “All I know is that I am madly happy with my results. Rest, I will go with whatever others plan,” he said.

Selina Yadav, Sonali and Hari Om jointly secured the second position with 99% marks.

Only 51.15% students managed to clear the exam as girls outshone boys again this year. According to the board, 55.34% girl cleared the exam and 47.61% boys were declared successful.
