Haridwar to start garbage collection at night

Finding it difficult to collect garbage during the day when movement of pilgrims is at its peak, the Haridwar Municipal Corporation has decided to collect trash at night.

Notably, as model project night cleaning, night sweeping and garbage disposal was implemented at core mela zone of Har-Ki-Pauri, which has yielded desired results. Har-Ki-Pauri Ganga ghats and markets have been quite clean due to round the clock sanitation, garbage disposal and cleanliness work. By the first fortnight of next month, round the clock cleaning will be done in the municipal corporation periphery, nagar panchayat and municipal committees. 

According to urban development minister Madan Kaushik, night cleaning mode has been implemented in Dehradun and Har-Ki-Pauri, that has changed the sanitation and cleanliness aspect successfully.

 “From Ganga ghats to city markets or public places like railway station, bus station, major intersections, parks and markets, impromptu inspection will be carried out. Even district in-charge minister, Satpal Maharaj, along with city legislators and other ministers will inspect the work of civic-sanitation employees,” said Kaushik. All the civic bodies have also been directed to procure prior the necessary equipment for the sanitation purpose before the monsoons.

“Adequate budget has been provided to the civic bodies, and with administrators taking charge, we assure that there will be no paucity of fund in this cleanliness drive,” added Kaushik. 

While administrator of the municipal corporation Deepak Rawat has notified KRLM, the private firm associated with garbage disposal, to carry out garbage ferrying work as per norms. 

Taking cognizance of reports of open ferrying of garbage in open pick-up trucks, Rawat has directed chief town commissioner to ensure that such vehicles be fined ₹5,000 and sanitation inspectors should also ensure that such open garbage ferrying doesn’t take place.
