With four losses in a row, the Chargers are desperate for a victory

The Deccan Chargers move to their third “home” in this year’s IPL with the knowledge that if they fail to log full points in the three encounters at the Jamtha Stadium, they can kiss their title aspirations goodbye.

The defending champions have lost four games in a row, after three consecutive victories, and are keen to turn the tide on Monday against the same team, which started their losing run.

Rajasthan Royals had ruined the Deccan Chargers’ party in Ahmedabad with a domineering performance and the Adam Gilchrist-led side is yet to find a solution to the bowling woes.

With the think-tank opting for three batsmen and one bowler in their quota of four foreigners, the inexperience of the domestic talent has been exposed, especially in the death overs. The team has been conceding an average of over 12 runs per over in the last five overs and it looks like Gilchrist is running out of ideas.

Despite Chaminda Vaas coming good with the new ball, the Chargers tried out speedster Kemar Roach and all-rounder Ryan Harris to stem the rot at the death but both have been far from impressive.

Even in batting, there is not much to crow about and with Gilchrist pulling up a leg muscle during the last game against the Mumbai Indians on Saturday, there is uncertainty over his availability.

However, the Chargers can take heart from the dismal away form of their opponents.

The Rajasthan Royals have lost all their away games so far and though they showed tremendous spirit in the failed chase against the Chennai Super Kings on Friday, they were always playing catch up after conceding 246 runs.

With both the Royals and Chargers struggling to find the right bowling combination, the onus will be on the batsmen to end the losing run.

On current form, the likes of Yusuf Pathan and Shane Watson have the upper hand.
