Brijesh Patel to continue as IPL GC chairman, Rajiv Shukla to be back as BCCI VP
Former IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla is set to return to BCCI administration as vice president, being the only applicant for the post.
Former Test player Brijesh Patel is set to continue as the chairman of the IPL Governing Council (GC). Thursday was the deadline of submitting nominations for two GC posts, ahead of the BCCI’s upcoming AGM on December 24, and incumbents Patel and Khairul Majumdar were the only ones to have applied.
There won’t be any election drama at the AGM, with the only other vacancy also to be filled by consensus. Former IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla is set to return to BCCI administration as vice president, being the only applicant for the post.
The electoral officer cleared objections raised over Shukla’s nomination on both counts - conflict of interest and cooling off rule. “The cooling off period of three years relating to Rajiv Shukla ended on June 26, 2020. The objections stands rejected,” the officer ruled.
The final list of applicants will be announced after scrutiny on Friday.
The AGM is to be held at Ahmedabad’s refurbished Sardar Patel Motera stadium, with state member representatives asked to undergo RT- PCR tests, a day before the meeting.

Motera will be hosting the knock out matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament from January 26-31.
Bengaluru, Kolkata, Vadodara, Indore, Mumbai and Chennai have been chosen as the six venues to conduct the league phase starting January 10.
