IPL 2018: Shreyas Iyer’s coin throw fail leaves MS Dhoni in splits
Ahead of the IPL 2018 match between Delhi Daredevils and Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni burst into laughter following a botched coin throw by Shreyas Iyer
MS Dhoni hardly gives anything away in terms of emotions while he’s on field. The ice-cool approach, coupled with his serious expressions to tackle a given situation of the match, makes it impossible to figure out what’s going on in the former skipper’s mind.
However, there’s also the other shade of the Chennai Super Kings captain who manages to lighten up the entire mood of the crowd in one go. He has attempted to fake a nap during a match, scared Ravindra Jadeja by a dummy throw and even found opposition fielders picking out the ball from his pad to have a go at the other end.

It was a funny scenario on Friday as well, as Delhi Daredevils captain Shreyas Iyer flipped the coin at the toss ceremony and it landed several feet away from where the two captains and the match officials were present. Match referee Manu Nayyar, however, walked up to the spot and stated that Dhoni had won the toss. Watching Dhoni laugh, even Iyer couldn’t control himself.
However, it wasn’t the best of days for Dhoni on the field as his side lost by 34 runs to the Daredevils in a match where a win would have confirmed them of a top-two spot. Dhoni, himself, scored a sluggish 23-ball 17, which, however made him the fifth batsman after Suresh Raina (7,708), Virat Kohli (7,621), Rohit Sharma (7,303) and Gautam Gambhir (6,402) to notch up 6,000 runs in the shortest format of the game.
