'Their bowling is little strong, but batting is fragile': Karim explains why SL may struggle against India
India vs Sri Lanka: Former India cricketer Saba Karim remarked that the Sri Lanka batting order looks fragile and may leave a lot to be desired.
The beginning of the first India vs Sri Lanka ODI in Colombo is only a few hours away. However, the anticipation and excitement surrounding the series have been very high throughout the build-up due to various reasons. Included in the long list is the performance of the hosts' batting performance. Addressing the topic, former India cricketer Saba Karim remarked that the Lankan batting order looks fragile and may leave a lot to be desired.
India's tour of Sri Lanka begins on Sunday, with the sides slated to play three ODIs and as many T20Is. While India head into the series on the back of series wins in both formats, the Lanka Lions, on the other hand, go into the series on the back of defeats in both formats against England. Moreover, the nation is fielding numerous new names.
While previewing the India-Sri Lanka ODI series on India News, Saba Karim explained why the host nation have their task cut-out against the Shikhar Dhawan-led side.
"Our team has plenty of match-winners, so it will be very difficult for Sri Lanka. Although I feel their bowling is a little strong, I see their batting to be very fragile," said Karim.
The former India wicketkeeper-batsman also commented:
"Our team is extremely strong. I don't think the Sri Lankan team will get too many chances. We have the experience and the talent, and we know how to perform in ODI matches and how to win matches."
On the flip side, Karim observed that this series is a great opportunity for the youngsters in the Sri Lanka outfit to perform as they come in without any baggage.
"I am seeing one advantage for Sri Lanka, that quite a few of their new players will come in this series. They will not have any baggage and they can come and express themselves. If the Sri Lankan team goes into the ground with that mindset, we can expect to see some fight."
