Kohli suffered a neck injury earlier this year while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and as a result, he was unable to play for English county side Surrey ahead of this tour.

Virat Kohli had a brilliant start to the Test series with a century and a fifty in the first Test at Edgbaston and although India were beaten by 31 runs, his knocks earned him praises from fans and experts alike. But, the situation has been completely different in the second Test as India were bowled out for 107 in their first innings.

England rode on Chris Woakes (120 not out) Jonny Bairstow (93) to reach 357 for six wickets and take a huge 250-run lead over India on Day 3. All-rounder Woakes registered his maiden international century, while Bairstow scored his 19th Test fifty as the duo shared a 189-run stand for the sixth wicket.
