India vs England 4th Test Day 4 Highlights: Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal knocked off 42 runs in the first eight overs of Day 4 before the latter fell to Joe Root. Captain Rohit then crossed his half-century as he leads India's chase of 192. England then sent back Rohit and Rajat Patidar in quick succession and suddenly came roaring back into the match. Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja saw out the rest of the session but the latter fell soon after Lunch to Shoaib Bashir. Sarfaraz Khan then fell off the very next ball and that brought India's first innings hero Dhruv Jurel to the middle with Gill. The pair calmed things down for India, managing to not just play out the rest of the first hour of the session but knock off the runs consistently. They ended up putting an unbeaten stand of 72 runs off 136 runs, with Gill grinding out a half-century, as India beat England by five wickets. On Day 3, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin and Dhruv Jurel were the protagonists of a remarkable recovery from India on Day 3 of the fourth Test against England in Ranchi, at the end of which they needed 152 runs to win with all 10 wickets in hand. India already lead the five-Test series 2-1 which means that a victory here would also mark the end of the larger contest.
Jurel's 90 off 149 balls powered India to a score of 307 after which a five-wicket haul from Ashwin and a four-fer from Kuldeep helped India bundle England out for a score of 145 in the visitors' second innings. This left India with a target of 192 to chase and the hosts cruised to 40 for no loss at Stumps on Day 3. Captain Rohit and Jaiswal looked unperturbed on a pitch where the ball spun sharply and stayed low occasionally.
Jurel combined in a 76-run partnership with Kuldeep (28), whose 131-ball vigil was the longest in his test career. Jurel smashed four sixes and six fours in his knock but fell short of a hundred when Tom Hartley (3-68) bowled him.
Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir (5-119) claimed his first five-wicket haul in test cricket. A lead of 46 was much lower than England probably had expected having reduced India to 177-7 before the hosts roared right back into the contest after Ashwin's triple strikes. The off-spinner had Ben Duckett caught short leg for 15 and trapped Ollie Pope lbw with his next delivery. Pope fell for his second duck in the match.
While Ashwin could not complete a hat-trick, he got the important wicket of Joe Root (11) lbw. Root, who made a classy century in the first innings, was initially adjudged not out, but Ashwin coaxed his captain Rohit Sharma into challenging the decision. The hosts were rewarded when replays confirmed the ball would have gone on to hit the stump.
Opener Zak Crawley smashed seven fours in his 60 before losing his middle stump to Kuldeep. The spinner struck another telling blow when he had Ben Stokes bowled for four before the tea break. The England captain missed the ball, which hit his pad before spinning back between his legs and went on to hit the stumps. Jonny Bairstow (30) fell in the first ball after the tea break and Kuldeep dismissed Hartley and Ollie Robinson in the same over to pin England on the mat. Ashwin went on to dismiss Ben Foakes and Anderson in the same over as England lost their last six wickets for 25 runs in a remarkable meltdown.

Here is a gist of what he said: "It's been a very hard-fought series, so to come on the right side of it feels very good. A lot of challenges thrown at us but we responded and were quite composed. These guys want to be here, growing up in the domestic circuit, local club-cricket, and coming here. It's a big challenge, but the responses I get are encouraging. We have to give them the environment they want to be in, we can't just keep talking to them, they are very clear in what they want to do. Jurel showed composure, calmness and shots all round the wicket. His first-innings 90 was crucial, and again in the second innings along with Gill. It's always not pleasing when you miss key players, but there's nothing we can do as a group. To fill their shoes was not easy, but they responded really well. When you make a mark like that, you hold yourself in a good position for a long career. This will motivate them. We turn up to every Test thinking we want to win, this is a great series, want to turn up in fifth and put our best foot forward. Confident we will put on a good show."

This is a gist of what he said: “I think it was a great Test match. If you see the scoreboard, it'll say India won by 5 wickets, but it doesn't give credit to the way things unfolded. I can only be proudof my team, we 've had some inexperiencedspinners (Bashir and Hartley), but I'm proud of their efforts. Part of my captaincy is allowing the young guys to revel and the freedom to play in some difficult conditions in India. I am a massive Test cricketfan, the numbers of youngsters coming along in both teams sets things up nicely for the future. If you look yesterday, anything was possible, it was incredibly difficult against the spinners, we knew the pitch wouldn't get any better, as we saw today. I don't think the criticismof Joe Root has been fair, the sheer amount of crickethe's played, he's incredible. So is Bashir, taking 8 wickets after having hardly played a lot of cricket is superb. You want to win series, you want to play and win cricketmatches. The only thing I can say is we left nothing on the field, we've fought hard and I'm happy with that.”
