Hardik Pandya (71) raised his third fifty in Test cricket while R Ashwin(18), Ravindra Jadeja (20) and Umesh Yadav (26no) played cameos to get India in a position where they can easily dictate terms to the debutants. (INDIA vs AFGHANISTAN, ONE-OFF TEST, DAY 2 LIVE SCORES)

Resuming from 347 for six, overnight batsmen R Ashwin and Hardik Pandya added 35 runs for the seventh wicket. Pandya was aggressive and used the long handle to good effect against Rashid Khan. He hit some crisp drives of Rashid as he raced to his third century in Test cricket.

Any hopes of Afghanistan finishing the India innings quickly were dashed as Ashwin and Pandya took their time to settle and didn’t go for runs. Yamin Ahmadzai like on Day 1 was the one to provide a breakthrough as he has Ashwin caught behind for 18.

Pandya then had a fruitful partnership of 67 runs with Ravindra Jadeja. Both the batsmen managed to frustrate Afghanistan bowlers. Jadeja moved to 20 of 31 balls and was the next man to depart caught by Rahmat Shah of Mohammad Nabi. Pandya, meanwhile, reached his half-century of a boundary of Nabi. He then opened up hitting Wafadar for two fours through mid-on and midwicket region as India inched closer to 450.

Pandya was finally dismissed for 71 off 94 balls (10x4) by Wafadar with the team total reading 440 for nine.

Afghanistan were then frustrated by India’s last pair of Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma. Yadav used long handle to good effect to hammer 26 runs which included two sixes and as many fours. Rashid then brought curtains to India innings trapping Ishant Sharma for 8. Yamin Ahmadzai was the best bowler for Afghanistan finishing with three wickets for 51, while Rashid Khan, even though leaked runs finished with two wickets for 154 in 34.5 overs.
