GT vs MI, IPL 2023 Qualifier 2 Highlights: Gill century, Mohit 5-fer lead Titans to 2nd consecutive final

Rashid with a celebrappeal for LBW, umpire raises the finger and David reviews straightaway. No edge at all and the umpire's decision is upheld. That has to be it.

Vinod spoons the fifth ball of the 15th straight into the hands of the cover fielder. This over may as well have ended this match as a contest.

Vinod c Pandya b Mohit 5 (7), 156/6 in 14.5 overs

Is that the game? SKY misses the scoop and the leg stump is knocked over. The batter takes ages to finally find the will to start walking away, Gill gives him a little pat on the back. Is that the end of MI's chase?

Second ball of the 15th, SKY nails the pulls shot and that goes deep into the stands.

SKY scoops the the fourth ball of the over and that clears the boundary and then some. His fifty comes in 33 balls.

Mohammed Shami has given Vishnu Vinod the greatest lifeline he could have ever wished for, bowler Josh Little doesn't know what to do. Vinod skies an attempted pull shot, Shami gets underneath it, he is settled. And then, Shami, the individual who plays cricket for a living, let that ball slip right through his hands. In fact, it might not be right to call it a dropped catch, because he didn't even touch it. That is just unacceptably poor from someone who gets paid millions just to play cricket.

Vishni Vinod is in as concussion substitute for Ishan Kishan. He is on 4 off 5, SKY is on 42 off 30. MI need 100 runs in 42 balls.

Little makes the bails fly off his second ball of the match. Didn't rise as much as he expected and the stumps behind him is disturbed. Big wicket here.

Green b Little 30 (20), 124/4 in 11.2 overs

Noor goes full on the stumps for the fourth ball of the 11th, Green smashes it over cow corner. What a partnership this is turning out to be. It has produced 47 runs in 27 balls. 

In any other match, this would be seen as a bonkers score and would indicate a clear cut victory for MI. But they are chasing 234 and so they still have a mountain to climb.

This time it is Green but he has got a boundary off Rashid the way normal batters do. Tries a cover drive, it takes an outside edge and runs to the boundary.

With that, MI race past 100 in just 9.3 overs. SKY getting into the act and he continues to smash Rashid everywhere.

Third ball of the ninth bowled by Noor Ahmad, it is overpitched down leg and Green slog sweeps it over deep square leg.

Their current run rate is 10.50 and the required rate is 12.50 so they are very much on course in that aspect. The lack of wickets, though, means that they need a 100-run stand somewhere. SKY is on 20 off 15, Gree on 8 off nine.

First ball of the eighth over and SKY makes the inside out shot over cover look easy. That is an extraordinary hit and he moves to 18 off 12.

The Australian walks back in, he will be at the non-striker's end and Noor Ahmad will be bowling to SKY for the first ball of the seventh.

Tilak misses the slog sweep and his stumps are rattled. That ends the whirlwind and it is a major, major blow for MI as well. Very important innings from Tilak though, one that has helped MI stay with their required run rate.

Tilak Varma b Rashid Khan 43 (14), MI 72/3 in 6 overs

He pulls Rashid and moves to 40 off just 12 balls. The ball goes past the diving deep midwicket fielder.

MI are 65/2 in just 5 overs! This over has turned the tables properly on GT and they now desperately need a wicket, lest these two take off. The last ball has been smashed over midwicket and Tilak has raced to 38 off 11 balls. SKY at the other end is on 10 off 6 and he is now set to face Rashid Khan, whom he has often taken to the cleaners.

Half volley outside off, Tilak caresses it through cover for the 4th consecutive four of the over.

Good stuff from Tilak, putting the pressure right back on the bowling side, the second ball is pulled down the ground to the boundary. Then the third takes a thick edge and goes through wide mid-on.

Beautifully placed by Varma between the point and third man fielders off the first ball of the fifth bowled by Shami. MI are going at a good run rate at the moment, just the loss of wickets will be a source of worry for them, 45/2 in 4.1 overs.

Tilak is on 7 off 3 and SKY is on 5 off 2. Both are big hitters and both are not often found batting in the powerplay so lot of potential here. Pandya comes back for the fourth.

Fifth ball of the third, Tilak Varma flicks it sweetly and it goes soaring over the boundary.

Shami gets his second! Rohit with a top edge off a flick, it goes into stratosphere, Josh Little settles underneath it and takes the catch.

Rod Tucker eventually comes in and tells the MI contingent that they have to take a call as it has taken just far too long. They decide it's better to let Green have a breather for now, get some treatment on the sidelines. If this is serious, it will be an unmitigated disaster for MI and for Australia. 

Now then, it's not just MI fans who would be hoping and praying that Green is allright here, Australia fans desperately need him to be fit for the WTC final and the Ashes. Green looked to give himself room, Pandya follows him in a piece of pure hostile fast bowling. 146kph and it hits Green flush on the unguarded forearm. There is some bruising on the arma nd it is swelling up, this might be more serious than what he initially let on.

Green off the very first ball he faces in this innings. Length ball from Shami, slightly wide, Green slaps it through cover point.

So much for the Impact Player. Wadhera tries a pull, edges it behind to the wicketkeeper.

Ishan Kishan does not come out to open the innings. It is Nehal Wadhera who walks out with Rohit Sharma. 

“I went to the washroom and did not know I would be wearing this [on the Orange cap]. Got a good total, hopefully we will defend this. A lot, sweat went into my eyes and I was not able to open them. We have played our best cricket when we have lost and this is one of those days. Definitely it plays a part, you have to know which side to target, if it's bigger boundaries and they bowl in good areas, look for doubles, smaller boundaries look to take it on. The new ball held up a bit, there was not much grass on that wicket, the ball was coming on nicely and with the outfield wet it stopped swinging after 2 overs. I wish this was possible - I will carry it everywhere [on this Ahmedabad pitch].”

HARDIK PANDYA ENDS THE INNINGS WITH A SIX OFF THE LAST BALL! Hits it over extra cover and over the boundary. It has been a good finishing effort from him and 230 would have been a target for GT considering what Gill was doing all innings. Pandya ends on 28 not out off 13 balls, Rashid at the other end on 5 off 2.

The fifth ball was called wide and the batters ran two as well after which Pandya takes a wild swipe at a wide ball. Takes the bottom edge and goes behind for a boundary.

Jordan bowling the last over, Rashid gets underneath it and smashes it down the ground.

He has been sent back for 43 off 31 and Rashid Khan has been sent in for the last over. MI would know more than any other team that he can hit a few.

Pandya slashes this full toss over the off side for a six. Then he asks for a review for height. If it was upheld, Madhwal would have had to be off but, the third umpire says it was fine.

Sudharsan hits the last ball of the 18th over short fine leg to the boundary. Just seven runs off that over though, it was a good one fron Behrendorff. Sudharsan is on 43 off 29, Pandya on 7 off 5. GT are 205/2 in 18 overs

Hardik Pandya forced to duck for the first ball he faces as the balls slips out of Madhwal's hands and it hurtles at the batter. Pandya didn't put his bat down, the ball hits it and runs behind to the boundary.

And it is Tim David who takes the catch! Madhwal gets the wicket, Gill pulls that short ball and holes out in the deep. That ends one of the greatest T20 innings you would ever get to see and he may have sealed his team's passage to the final with that.
