“It is naive and silly to get it wrong because of the effort that’s gone in, and the health risk - this is a serious illness and you cannot risk infecting anyone,” Nasser Hussain told Sky Sports. “We don’t know if it was just a naivety from Jofra or if it was something more serious. He has apologised, it is a very unusual situation that we all find ourselves in and he’s made a mistake. “His team-mates will be disappointed, as will his captain Joe Root,” he said. “(But) cricketers just move on very quickly. Joe Root: “We have to look ahead to the next five days and put up a good performance. We spoke to Mark and Jimmy and knew it’s a high risk to play them in back to back games. It is a must win for us, but we need to look after them as well. We can take 20 wickets and we’re looking forward to that. We have Broad, Woakes, Curran and Bess in the bowling. Firstly we need runs and need to improve there. We need to figure out how we want to play our cricket. We got ourselves where we could win the gama after being down in the first two and a half days and that gave me a lot of pleasure. It looks a very good wicket, might spin a little bit and is softer than usual. I have had a lot of time thinking about Test cricket and want to get out there and perform.”

Cornwall selection depends on weather

The nature of the Old Trafford pitch brought up a selection dilemma for the Windies who would otherwise want to go in unchanged. The assistance for spinners means Rahkeem Cornwall is in with a chance to play in this match. That could mean Alzarri Joseph missing out. But if it rains and stays overcast then Windies might not go in with the spinner. Although Roston Chase is a decent spinner.

Lengthy delay expected

Some bad news for the fans. There could be a lengthy delay as word coming from the ground is that it might take 90 minutes to get the pitch ready after it stops raining completely. The umpires inspected the playing conditions a little while back and there still no word on when the toss will take place.

Weather Update

Reports suggest it is still drizzling at Manchester and this could mean a delay in toss. Just a little under 10 minutes to go and the covers are on. This isn’t good news as it seems there will be a delay.

England have already handed out ‘rests’ to Anderson and Wood, so Broad will play along side Chris Woakes and Sam Curran. It could be good in a way as these bowlers will be fresh and they won’t have the baggage of losing the last Test.

Pressure on Broad?

Stuart Broad is expected to start now and there could be some pressure on him to perform. The pressure will not be from the point of him not having had a good run, but the fact that a lot of people put the onus of England losing the first Test on Broad’s absence could add the extra burden on the medium pacer. He is an experienced customer though. Broad’s former teammate Graeme Swann had said yesterday that if England needs to win they need to play Anderson and Broad together.

Jason Holder’s men have a chance to put an end to the 32-year-old wait for a series win in England. The last time West Indies won a series in England was back in 1988. The Archer news hours before the toss has shifted focus from Joe Root. England’s regular captain is set to return in this Test match after missing the first Test due to birth of his second child. Root will replace Joe Denly at No.3. The latter has been dropped after a string of average scores in Test cricket.
