DC vs KXIP: Shikhar Dhawan avoids getting ‘Mankaded’ by R Ashwin in a hilarious way – Watch

Delhi Capitals opener Shikhar Dhawan was at his animated best when KXIP skipper Ravichandran Ashwin thought about ‘Mankading’ him during the two teams’ clash at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday.

This law became famous as the ‘Mankad’ rule during India’s maiden tour to Australia in 1947 when Indian all-rounder Vinoo Mankad twice dismissed Bill Brown by removing the bails when he was outside the crease. The Australian Press slammed Mankad and that is how the name for the dismissal became famous.

During the 13th over of the DC chase, Ashwin stopped mid-way through his run-up on the second delivery and looked towards Dhawan, who was looking to move out of his crease. As the spinner went back to take his run-up, Dhawan got down on one knee and looked at Ashwin.

But no one was prepared for what happened next. As Ashwin bowled the delivery to Shreyas Iyer, Dhawan mocked the KXIP skipper by suggesting that he was going out of the crease but his bat was inside all along.

The official handle of the IPL uploaded the image on social media and their post read: “Shikhar’s dance moves on the crease.” 

Delhi Capitals avenged their shocking first-leg defeat with a five-wicket victory over Kings XI Punjab, brightening their prospects of making the play-offs.

Chasing 164 for a win, opener Shikhar Dhawan laid the foundation with a fluent 56 of 41 balls, while skipper Shreyas Iyer contributed an unbeaten 58 off 49 balls to complete the job with two balls to spare. Iyer hit five fours and a six.

In the first leg in Mohali, DC lost seven wickets for eight runs to gift KXIP victory after sitting pretty at 144 for three in the 17th over while chasing 168. On Saturday, the home side were 141 for three at the end of the 17th over with 23 needing off 18 balls.
