Lok Sabha elections 2019: BJP fields a swami against Cong’s Shinde from Solapur constituency in Maharashtra
Maharashtra’s 48 constituencies will vote to elect members to the Lok Sabha in four phases on April 11, 18, 23 and 29.
The Bharatiya Janata Party holds the Solapur Lok Sabha constituency. In 2014, party candidate Sharad Bansode had defeated Congress’s Sushilkumar Shinde.
This time, the bJP has fielded religious leader Jai Siddeshwar Swami to take on the former Union home minister.
Heading Gaudgaon Math in Akkalkot taluka, the swami belongs to the Jangam community. With his nomination, the BJP is hopeful of influencing the Lingayat community which has a strong presence in the Solapur constituency.
