Election Result 2019: UP’s Kushi Nagar sees triangular contest this year
Uttar Pradesh, which sends the maximum number of members to Parliament at 80, will go to polls in all the seven phases of the Lok Sabha election 2019. Votes will be counted on May 23.
The Kushinagar parliamentary constituency came into existence in 2008 after the Delimitation Commission recommended the restructuring of the Padrauna Lok Sabha seat, which no longer exists.
The Congress registered a victory in the first Lok Sabha election in 2009 and in the next polls in 2014, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) Rajesh Pandey won. Currently, BJP’s Vijay Kumar Dubey is leading the scene after the first phase of counting.
Associated with the Buddha, there are five assembly segments of Khadda, Padrauna, Kushinagar, Hata and Ramkola under the Kushi Nagar Lok Sabha seat.
The constituency, where Buddha is believed to attained parinirvan or salvation after death, has a significant presence of Brahmin voters. Muslims and voters from the Scheduled Caste communities also hold an importance in the electoral outcome.
