Allahabad election results 2019: UP’s constituency has always been a high-profile seat

Allahabad election results 2019: No party, except the Congress, has been able to keep its hold over the seat for long. BJP’s Murli Manohar Joshi managed to win from the seat thrice and Kunwar Rewati Raman Singh of the SP was successful twice.

Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad parliamentary constituency has elected former prime ministers Lal Bahadur Shastri and VP Singh, former UP chief minister Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, SP’s Janeshwar Mishra and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan.

No party, except the Congress, has been able to keep its hold over the seat for long. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Murli Manohar Joshi managed to win from the seat thrice and Kunwar Rewati Raman Singh of the Samajwadi Party was successful twice. Former Union minister Janeshwar Mishra did win thrice but contested as a candidate from different parties in all the three elections

Currently, BJP’s Rita Bahuguna Joshi is in the lead and Rajendra Singh Patel is trailing.

Based on the banks of the Sangam, the Allahabad parliamentary constituency has five assembly segment under it — Meja, Karachhana, Allahabad South, Bara (SC), Koraon (SC). Allahabad has a significant Patel and Dalit electorate and the Bania community has also a sizeable presence in the area. Dalits, Thakurs and Brahmins also influence the outcome of the elections to a large extent.

Uttar Pradesh, which sends the maximum number of members to Parliament at 80, went on for polls in all the seven phases of the Lok Sabha election 2019.
