Lok Sabha 2019 constituency: Trinamool will look to win West Bengal’s Basirhat for the third time

Polling will be held in the general seat on the seventh and last phase of election on May 19. The counting of votes will be taken on May 23.

Basirhat parliamentary constituency is one of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, which covers the district of North 24 Parganas.

The Trinamool Congress has held the seat since 2009, when its leader Nurul Islam won against Ajay Chakraborty of the Communist Party of India by more than 60,000 votes. The CPI was in control of the Basirhat seat since 1980.

In the next Lok Sabha election in 2014, Trinamool’s Idris Ali managed to keep the seat. Idris Ali defeated CPI’s Nurul Huda.

The Trinamool Congress has nominated actor Nusrat Jahan from Basirhat seat for the Lok Sabha election 2019.
