Lok Sabha 2019 constituency: Trinamool will aim to win former Left bastion of Hooghly

Polling will be held in Hooghly Lok Sabha seat on May 6 during the fifth round of the seven-phased election. The votes will be counted on May 23.

One of the 42 Lok Sabha seats, Hooghly parliamentary constituency had remained a Left stronghold till the Trinamool Congress won it in the 2009 general election.

Rupchand Pal, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and a six-time member of Parliament, was defeated by Trinamool’s Dr Ratna De in the Lok Sabha election 2009. Ratna De defeated Pal by a margin of 81,523 votes.

Dr Ratna De won the seat again in 2014 Lok Sabha election against CPI(M)’s Pradip Saha. The Trinamool Congress has entrusted her with the task of winning the Hooghly Lok Sabha again in Lok Sabha election 2019.

Polling will be held in Hooghly Lok Sabha seat on May 6 during the fifth round of the seven-phased election. The votes will be counted on May 23.
