Lok Sabha 2019 constituency: Former BJP MP is Congress candidate in UP’s Bahraich

The Bahraich Lok Sabha seat, reserved for members of Scheduled Castes, comprises five assembly segments of Balha, Nanpara, Matera, Mahasi and Bahraich.
Former BJP leader Savitri Bai Phule, who is now with the Congress party, is the sitting member of Parliament from Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich parliamentary constituency.
Since the 1996 Lok Sabha election, the Bahraich Lok Sabha seat has not been won by the same party consecutively.(Hindustan Times)
The Bahraich Lok Sabha seat, reserved for members of Scheduled Castes, comprises five assembly segments of Balha, Nanpara, Matera, Mahasi and Bahraich. Dalits and Muslims are the dominant electorates in this constituency.
Since the 1996 Lok Sabha election, the Bahraich Lok Sabha seat has not been won by the same party consecutively. The Bharatiya Janata Party bagged the seat for the first time in 1991 and has won it thrice in 1996, 1999 and 2014. The Congress, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party have also been successful once each.
Uttar Pradesh, which sends the maximum number of members to Parliament at 80, will go to polls in all the seven phases of the Lok Sabha election 2019. Votes will be counted on May 23.
