Lok Sabha 2019 constituency: Congress’s Rajesh Pilot dominated Rajasthan’s Dausa seat

Congress leader Rajesh Pilot won the seat for the first time in 1984 and represented it in the Lok Sabha from 1991 to 1999. His wife Rama Pilot won the by-poll held after his death in 2000.

The Dausa parliamentary constituency, one of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan, is a Congress stronghold and was represented by the Pilot family for years.

The Congress party has won ten elections from the Dausa Lok Sabha seat since elections were first held in 1952. Congress leader Rajesh Pilot won the seat for the first time in 1984 and represented it in the Lok Sabha from 1991 to 1999. His wife Rama Pilot won the by-poll held after his death in 2000.

In the 2004 Lok Sabha election, Rajesh Pilot’s son Sachin Pilot, the Congress Rajasthan unit chief, bagged the seat in 2004. Independent candidate Kirodilal Meena contested successfully from the seat in 2009 but lost to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Harish Chandra Meena in 2014.

The Dausa Lok Sabha seat, reserved for Scheduled Tribes, has eight assembly constituencies of Bassi (ST), Chaksu (SC), Thanagazi, Bandikui, Mahuwa, Sikrai (SC), Dausa and Lalsot (ST) under it. It is spread over the entire Dausa district and parts of Jaipur and Alwar districts. Part of Rajasthan’s tribal belt, Meena voters form a sizeable population under the Dausa Lok Sabha seat.

Rajasthan will poll in two phases on April 29 and May 6. The votes will be counted on May 23.
