Ghazipur Election Results 2019: Battle of prestige for Union minister Manoj Sinha in UP’s Ghazipur

Uttar Pradesh, which sends the maximum number of members to Parliament at 80, will go to polls in all the seven phases of the Lok Sabha election 2019. Votes will be counted on May 23.

Union minister Manoj Sinha is the sitting member of Parliament from Ghazipur in eastern Uttar Pradesh and has represented the parliamentary constituency thrice in the Lok Sabha.

This year, junior railways minister Manoj Sinha is facing his rival Afzal Ansari from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) after 15 years. Ansari had defeated Sinha in the Lok Sabha election in 2004. Manoj Sinha has won from the Ghazipur Lok Sabha seat thrice, the first time in 1996, and lost three times as well. Afzal Ansari is currently leading the vote count.

The Congress has been successful four times and the Communist Party of India (CPI), Bharatiya Janata Party and Samajwadi Party thrice each on the Ghazipur Lok Sabha seat.

Jakhanian, Saidpur, Ghazipur Sadar, Jangipur and Zamania are the assembly segments under the Ghazipur Lok Sabha seat. Bhumihar, Kayastha, Brahmins and Thakurs form a sizeable population here. The Yadavs, Muslims and Khushwahas can also impact the outcome of an election.
