No party has ever managed to win from the Barabanki parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh’s Awadh region for the second time in a row.

In the elections held 17 times till now on the Barabanki Lok Sabha seat, the Congress party has been successful five times, Samajwadi Party four times, the Bharatiya Janata Party twice and the Bahujan Samajwadi Party once. Congress’ PL Punia and Beni Prasad Verma, former Union minister and Samajwadi Party leader, have represented Barabanki in the Lok Sabha.
The Barabanki Lok Sabha seat is reserved for members of Scheduled Castes and has a high Dalit population as well as a significant Kurmi influence.
