Tension in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district after ‘swine meat’ found at Eidgah

Tension simmered at Nawadih village in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district on Sunday following recovery of alleged swine flesh from the veranda of an Eidgah.

Villagers were on boil since morning and have held four persons responsible for this act, including one security guard who was posted in village for security of the Eidgah.

Lab tests, however, are yet to confirm if the meat found at the Eidgah was of swine or any other animal.

Police from Madhupur, Margomunda and Karro police stations reached the spot in the morning to prevent the situation from snowballing into a communal conflagration.

Sub-divisional magistrate of Madhupur, Kundan Kumar said the situation was under control and adequate police form neighbouring police stations had been deployed in the village to prevent any clashes. Four persons including chowkidar Gopal Turi had been named in the FIR by the villagers for this incident, he said.

Mohammed Akther Ansari, secretary of the local mosque committee lodged the FIR with Karro Police Station. He has termed it an attempt to create tension in village and surrounding localities.

Akther said that about three months ago, some miscreants had thrown prohibited meat at a burial ground at Tetulia village to create tension.

The other three who have been named include Mantosh Yadav, Angrej Yadav and Bajo Yadav of Dhobana village. These three were identified by local villagers, said Akther.

Former minister and JMM leader Haji Hussain Ansari reached the village following the incident and pacified the villagers. He also asked the SDM to strengthen security in surrounding localities fearing attempts by miscreants to disrupt peace.
