Truck driver waylaid, robbed on Mumbai-Bengaluru highway; three held

PUNE A truck driver from Malkapur in Satara district was waylaid and robbed by three men on Friday, said police. The incident took place at around 12:30 am on the Mumbai-Bangalore highway, Hinjewadi area. Police said three youths have been arrested in the case.

The accused have been identified as Prathmesh Rakesh Hadke, 19, a resident of Guruwar Peth; Prathamesh Sampat Girme, 19, a resident of Swargate and Vaibhav Milind Nigade, 19, a resident of Guruwar Peth.
According to police, truck driver Kadar Gulab Sheikh, 29, a resident of Malkapur in Karad, was on his way to Mumbai. The accused travelling in the car intercepted them and asked the driver to take the truck aside.
When the driver asked the reason, the accused told him, his truck had created a dent on the surface of their car and demanded money. When the truck driver refused, one of the accused abused him and started beating up the cleaner.
One of them robbed ₹4,500 from the pocket of the truck driver and took him to a nearby Sai petrol pump and forcefully withdrew ₹10,000 from the ATM and fled towards Mumbai.
CM Borkar, police sub-inspector, Hinjewadi police, said, “We have arrested three accused in the case.”
A case has been registered at Hinjewadi police station under sections 394(Voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 504 (Intentional insult to any person leading to provocation), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
