The work to repair the water leakage at Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Shantinagar Corner in the Vishrantwadi area began two days after HT reported the issue as daily water leakage with hundreds of litres of water being wasted at the Vishrantwadi Chowk.

Local citizens had complained to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) about the issue several times.

“We are relieved that the PMC water department has taken notice and begun repairs to prevent water waste. While there is concern that the civic body would enforce water cuts in the city, everyday lakhs of litres of water is being wasted due to their negligence,” Vinod Pawar, a resident said.

Owing to the leakage, there was a risk of two-wheeler riders slipping over the road and encountering an accident.

Commenting on the maintenance work, an executive engineer of the PMC water supply department stated on the condition of anonymity, “We have started the repairing work now and there will be no water leakage by tomorrow.”
