Cloudy weather forecast for Pune
In Pune, the temperature is likely to continue to be above normal level till the end of March. On April 1 and 2, the city might experience cloudy weather conditions
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on March 27 issued an alert for unseasonal rainfall, lightning and thunder activities in southern parts of Maharashtra between March 28 and March 31. The forecast suggested that the remaining areas of the state are likely to witness heatwave impact towards the end of March.

In Pune, the temperature is likely to continue to be above normal level till the end of March. On April 1 and 2, the city might experience cloudy weather conditions. The chances of rainfall activities are very less, said SD Sanap, senior meteorologist, IMD Pune.
The nighttime temperature on March 27 increased significantly in Pune, especially in the eastern parts of the city. Magarpatta station recorded 25.3 degrees Celsius night temperature, one of the highest in the season. Koregaon Park, Lohegaon and Chinchwad have reported temperatures at 23.4, 23.7 and 23.6 respectively. In Shivajinagar and Pashan, the nighttime temperatures were recorded as 19.5 and 19.4 degrees Celsius respectively.
The IMD data highlighted drop in daytime or maximum temperature in the city. Lohegaon which experienced 41.4 degrees Celsius maximum temperature on March 26 reported 39.1 on March 27. In Shivajinagar, the temperature was recorded as 36.4 degrees Celsius, 2 degrees less as compared to 38.6 degrees Celsius of March 26.
As per the weather department officials, a north-south trough runs from north central Maharashtra to north Kerala across interior Karnataka in lower tropospheric levels. Under its influence, isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds are likely to be experienced over central Maharashtra on March 29 and 30. A yellow alert has been issued for Sindhudurg, Sangli and Kolhapur district for March 29. Anupam Kashyapi, former head of weather and forecasting division, IMD Pune said, “Isolated heatwave is likely to be experienced in Maharashtra by the end of March in Vidarbha and adjoining area.”
In state, the highest temperature on March 27 was recorded in Bramhapuri as 42.2 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature was recorded in Gondia as 18.4.
Rising mercury in Lohegaon
As per IMD data, the nighttime or minimum temperature in Lohegaon was recorded as 23.7 degrees Celsius on March 27, above normal by 6.5 degrees Celsius. The mercury logged on March 24 and 25 were 22.8, departure from normal by 5.8 degrees Celsius and higher as compared to other parts of the city. A senior weather scientist requesting anonymity said, “Lohegaon is continuously recording temperature in the range of 40-40.5 degrees Celsius due to many factors, including tall buildings. More observations and research are needed to understand the microscale changes in temperature/rainfall within a city.”
