Celebrities were invited for the opening, that was supposed to use only one-third of the road for their relaunch party. Later. the police. called by frustrated residents, informed that they had not taken permission from the Pune Municipal Corporation and had illegally used the entire road.
The residents took to the streets to protest after traffic police turned a blind eye to their issues on the same day as the party continued inside a packed bar.
On Monday, a group of residents from Balewadi, Vaishali Patkar, Sheela Kochar; Sangeetha Baheti, Abasaheb Kamble, Ramesh Rokade, Adv Mashalkar and Ameya Jagtap met with the commissioner.
“The commissioner accepted that there was local level mismanagement in granting and supervision of the approval given in case of 1 BHK super bar inauguration,” said Vaishali Patkar, resident of Balewadi.
“We raised issues of traffic congestion and bars in residential areas. The CP has asked for a detailed list of cases causing inconvenience to residents,” added Patkar.
The residents also highlighted the issue of traffic congestion at various junctions and also parking issues due to the pubs and bars in Balewadi. During the meeting, it was decided that the CP, DCP traffic and concerned officers will visit Balewadi to discuss the issues highlighted by the citizens.
Gupta said, “ I met with a group of residents and heard their queries. I have asked for another meeting with the field officers in Baner once the residents are ready with their list of problems. It may take place next week.”
“During the meeting the CP informed that due to limited staff, police is not able to cover all junctions when we raised issue about patrolling,” Sangeeta Baheti, another resident.
