Patna: Missing service pistol with ammunition of IG Vikas Vaibhav recovered

Patna police on Saturday recovered the missing Glock pistol and 25 bullets from the courtyard of inspector general of police (IG) Vikas Vaibhav, officials said.

Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) M S Dhillon said the missing items were recovered from the IG’s house courtyard. According to the SSP, a Glock pistol, two magazines and all 25 bullets were reported to be allegedly stolen from the house of IG Vikas Vaibhav.

IG Vaibhav, a 2003 batch IPS officer, lodged a case with the Gardanibagh police station after his loaded service pistol had gone missing.

“An FIR was lodged with Gardanibagh police station (case no FIR no. 711/22 ) under section 380 of the IPC against two suspects, namely Sudhanshu Kumar and Sumit Kumar. Sudhanshu Kumar was working as a sweeper in the officer’s house,” added the SSP.

“The role of two suspects named in FIR is still a matter of ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made so far. The suspects and witnesses are being questioned to ascertain the circumstances, leading to the FIR,” he added.

On November 24, the incident came to light when IG Vikas Vaibhav went to the room to collect the pistol and found it missing. The service Glock pistol was loaded with 25 bullets.

During the search, it came to notice that Suraj Kumar, the son of the home guard jawan Virendra Kumar came to their house for cleaning.

After being informed about the case, a police team from Gardanibagh reached IG’s house and took the accused Suraj for questioning after he was detained.
