Although chief minister Nitish Kumar has defended prohibition, the BJP claims such tragedies are happening due to unscrupulous elements. The chief minister has argued that hooch tragedies are a bigger problem in states without prohibition. However, Nitish's ally, the Hindustani Awam Morcha, has called for an all-party meeting to discuss the future of prohibition, arguing that deaths are consistently taking place.
