Two held for assault on couple in Prayagraj
The Tharwai police unit has arrested two persons in connection with a brutal assault on a couple on October 15, here on Monday. The accused had forcibly entered the residence of the couple late in the night with an intention of loot.

A country made pistol, ammunition and a knife used in the assault was recovered from them.
Sub-inspector at Tharwai police station Akhilesh Kumar said acting on a tip off, the police team nabbed Shamsher Bhartiya and Mukesh Bhartiya of Bahmalpur village.
The duo was involved in the attack on a couple in the night on October 15.
Shamsher had six criminal cases registered against him at Soraon and Tharwai police station while Mukesh has three cases lodged against him. The duo confessed to have barged inside the house of Ashok Singh with motive of loot, he added.
Ashok Singh and his wife Neetu, residing in Jaitwardih village, were asleep in their courtyard. The intruders scaled the boundary walls of the house around 1am. The couple confronted the intruders and even caught one of them. However, in a bid to escape, the other accused resorted to violence and attacked Ashok with a sharp-edged weapon. Neetu who tried to save her husband, was also injured. The assailants eventually fled the scene when the couple’s daughter started crying.
