Jayant criticises Agnipath recruitment scheme in RLD’s first ‘Yuva Panchayat’
Rajya Lok Dal leader Jayant Choudhary criticized the newly-introduced recruitment scheme for the Indian armed forces, saying that it would weaken the army and encourage its privatisation.
Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) leader Jayant Choudhary criticised the newly-introduced recruitment scheme for Indian armed forces ‘Agnipath’ and said that it would weaken the army and encourage its privatisation.

Jayant was addressing the party’s ‘Yuva Panchayat’ at Kabaraut Town in Shamli district on Tuesday. It was the first panchayat organised by RLD and 10 more similar panchayats would be organised in different districts of western UP in the coming days to oppose the ‘Agnipath’ scheme.
Describing it as an impractical scheme, Jayant said, “Four years are insufficient to complete training in the Army, and under this new scheme the job will be ended in four years.” He said the scheme would divide the Indian armed forces into two domains and demanded the withdrawal of the ‘Agnipath’ recruitment scheme immediately.
Jayant said that RLD has given a potential platform to youths, and they should utilize it to raise their voice. He assured them that his party would leave no stone unturned to fight for their rights.
He further said that farmers work hard in their fields and dream of his son serving the country by seeking recruitment into the army. However, this new recruitment policy for a 4-year job in the army would shatter the dreams of young people and farmers.
He said that many Param Vir Chakra (PVC) winners have also opposed this scheme. “It could be a conspiracy to end the dominance of one region in the army,” Jayant said.
He warned that what the government has done with the army can be implemented for police as well in the coming days. After retirement in four years, Agniveers will not receive pensions or other benefits.
Jayant said that youths would be deprived of marriages because of this scheme. “The girl’s family would henceforth enquire whether the boy had got recruitment in the new scheme or old?” he said and added that if youths will not get pension, then an MP should also not be given pension after a tenure of five years,” he said.
