Security personnel disperse people protesting against the alleged use of Tipu Sultan's image in objectionable social media posts, in Kolhapur district.

Stone-pelting, clashes in Maharashtra's Kolhapur over posts on Tipu Sultan

Protests erupted in Maharashtra's Kolhapur following demonstrations against an alleged objectionable social media post involving 18th century Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan. Locals reportedly used an image of Sultan with an audio message that was deemed offensive, while others put up posts supporting the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Right-wing activists gathered to register their protests, but they were attacked by miscreants who pelted stones at them. Some politicians have suggested that a section of people from a particular community glorifying Aurangzeb and Sultan cannot be a mere coincidence and called for an investigation to identify those instigating youths.
