Flyer’s checked-in bag containing 1.60 lakh goes missing

Unknown person booked for stealing ₹1.60 lakh from passenger at Mumbai airport.

MUMBAI: An unknown person was booked on Saturday for stealing US$ 1,900, which is around 1.6 lakh, from a passenger’s checked-in bag at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) heading to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The complainant Mudassir Iqbal Sheikh, 26, a resident of Nalasopara. Sheikh flew to Saudi Arabia from Mumbai on October 7. He told the police that one of his checked-in bags that he had handed over to the airline staff had a pouch containing the US dollars. This bag was not handed over to him when he deboarded the flight in Riyadh along with his other luggage, he added.

“The missing bag was handed to me three days later, on October 10. I immediately checked for the cash, but it was missing. I tried to approach the airline and the local police over the issue but didn’t receive much help,” Sheikh said. He returned to India on October 19, after which he reached out to Sahar police. The unknown accused is booked under section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code.
