MCD polls: BJP to release first list of candidates after Holi
Following a series of meetings with the office bearers and party workers on Wednesday, BJP’s Delhi unit chief Manoj Tiwari said the party is working out a method to pick contestants for the upcoming polls in a transparent manner.
The Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) will announce its first list of candidates for the municipal elections in Delhi after Holi.
Following a series of meetings with the office bearers and party workers on Wednesday, BJP’s Delhi unit chief Manoj Tiwari said the party is working out a method to pick contestants for the upcoming polls in a transparent manner. He said the first list will be out by March 20. .
“Initially, we will announce the names of our candidates for nearly 160 wards. The rest will be announced in the second list. The ticket distribution will be a transparent exercise and only those having a proven track record in the party will be considered for ticket,” the BJP leader said.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has come out with two lists of candidates so far. The Congress, however, has also not announced its candidates so far.
The BJP could not take up discussion over the selection of candidates as Tiwari was campaigning in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Punjab for the last one and half month.
On Wednesday, Tiwari met ticket seekers at the party headquarters along with Siddharthan, general secretary (organisation).
“We received more than 500 applications today. There were some complaints so I have asked them to give their opinions or views in writing why they should be made party candidate or someone other be denied ticket for the municipal polls. We don’t want to choose someone just because he or she is a family member of a worker,” he said.

Meanwhile, sources in the party may field Purvanchalis on 25% seats or roughly 70 wards, in view of the electoral strength of the community. Purvanchalis are migrants from easter UP and Bihar.
“Based on their population ratio, around 40 seats will be given to aspirants from Baniya community. The party is expected to give priority to young and dedicated party leaders who have been selflessly working for years,” said a source.
