The Samajwadi Party has reportedly submitted a petition to the director of the Local Bodies Directorate in Lucknow claiming there was less than the permissible level of reservation for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward classes in the Uttar Pradesh government?s draft notification for forthcoming local body polls. The notification, issued on 30 March, provided 288 reserved seats for women, 205 for other backward classes, 110 for scheduled castes and two seats for scheduled tribes. Samajwadi Party state unit president Naresh Uttam Patel has called for amendments to the notification.
