RK Vishwakarma has been given the additional charge of Uttar Pradesh director general of police (DGP) until the appointment of a permanent state police chief. Vishwakarma, who is due to retire in May, is the senior-most Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the UP cadre after Mukul Goel. The state government will send names to the Union government for consideration for the DGP post during the two months of service left for Vishwakarma.
