A wild elephant known for breaking into homes and shops to steal rice has been relocated deep within India's Periyar Tiger Reserve. The tusker, nicknamed Arikomban, was fitted with a radio collar before being transported by truck to the reserve following a 12-hour operation to capture and tranquilise it. The elephant's relocation was controversial, with animal rights activists opposing attempts to tame the animal, and the Kerala high court ordering an expert committee to study the issue before recommending the elephant be moved to an area where there was no risk of conflict with humans.
