Juggling Delhi’s junk to conjure art from waste

Artists in Delhi are transforming scrap metal into sculptures of India's freedom fighters for a new theme park. The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Park in India's capital will be the city's third waste-to-art park, following the Waste to Wonder Park in 2019 and Bharat Darshan Park in 2021. The workshops source scrap metal from municipal junkyards and stores across the city, with welders and artists sifting through broken vehicles, signboards, rusting structures and more to create sculptures of figures including Mahatma Gandhi and Chandra Shekhar Azad.

Metro 3 will be fully operational by August: CM
