Ground-level ozone (O3) has emerged as Delhi’s lead pollutant during the day on several occasions in recent weeks, particularly after good spells of rain, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Ozone concentration has prevented Delhi’s air from touching the “good” category during this period. While particulate matter (PM) has long been considered the major pollutant, experts say a multi-pollutant strategy is necessary to tackle gases like ozone and carbon monoxide, which pose respiratory risks.
